Little Coders is the Coder’s Ladder® entry point for students grades Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. It is designed for beginner students new to coding or students with prior coding experience who are not yet ready for Level 1’s independent learning pace.
The Little Coders level teaches young students basic coding concepts with an educational, age-appropriate approach. The class uses a combination of online programming and offline activities that support computational thinking and computer literacy, building a strong foundation for coding.
Students use age-appropriate tools (including Lightbot, Kodable, code.org) to learn and practice code as a series of instructions, Loops, and Conditionals. Students apply their knowledge to build creative and fun games in the Scratch platform, such as mazes, animal dance games, and story-based games.
Students who graduate from the Little Coders level can independently code simple projects in Scratch. They can apply their creativity toward custom animation and storytelling in Scratch projects and are prepared for more advanced courses.
